About Wilder

Wilder, a mobile app for iOS and Android, supports users who would like to increase the biodiversity in their gardens but who are not quite sure how to make it happen. The app provides the user with projects tailored to their garden and allows the user to document the developments on the different projects that they are doing. Each project will help the user reach their goal of inviting local flora and fauna into their garden, therefore helping them create a haven for all things living.

Brainstorming

Watching my yard go from lawn to meadow was the key inspiration to this app. With so many threats on the environment, it’s nice to see that my garden is a safe haven for many creatures and plants. What if there were an app that could help you do exactly that! With that idea I started a short brainstorming session in which I created several low fidelity wireframe sketches to help guide me in the right direction. User Flow

With the first rough sketches made and an idea of which direction I wanted to go with the mood and style it was time to decide what screens would be relevant for the user to reach thier goal. A userflow allowed me see the path which the user would be taking and which screens would be important to include in the app.

Wireframes

Thanks to the userflow I was able to map out the apps functionality and basic layout - I created an initial rough draft of the screens as low-fidelity frames and then moved on to create native specific mid-fidelty wireframes for both iOS & Android, with which I could start my user testing.

Prototype & User-Testing

The mid-fidelity wireframes were tested for functionality by several different users and adjustments were made accordingly. This was followed by the high-fidelity wireframes that were converted to prototypes. The prototypes were then reviewed by various users for design, functionality and ease of use and last iterations were made.

Conclusion

What started as an idea from my own garden has turned into a native app that gives users the opportunity to increase the biodiversity in their gardens. The multitudes of projects and the ease with which to find them, gives users the chance to find projects that suit their needs. Though momentarily still a prototype, users who tested this app said they would love to explore this app further.
